Most of these methods involve crafting or gathering. They are also less combat-oriented than dungeons.

Selling items on the player Market Board can be profitable but requires timing. You don't want to sell an item too low. That encourages others to undercut you, cutting into your profits. Similarly, repairing gear via menders is an upkeep cost that can drain your wallet. Reducing upkeep costs can save you scores of Gil in the long run.

Crafting

The game is designed to provide players a variety of ways to earn gil, from enemies and chests to the Market Board and a myriad of other opportunities. Players may also use gil to purchase Materia for equipment, inns and transport services, and as the payment for the Coin command.

A crafter's best source of income is from selling crafted items on the Market Board. This is especially true around major patch releases when more players swarm the Market.

Some players find the convenience of having a leveled crafter more important than the ever-present queues for dungeons and trials. This is why it's generally a good idea to level all crafts, ideally keeping them in the same level range to maximize gear synergy. This way, you can recoup your investment with just a few clicks on the Market Board.

Gathering

While crafters are still the main way to make Gil in FFXIV, it’s possible for gathering Jobs to become very profitable as well. The gil that comes from completing leves is much more passive than that of fighting or running dungeons, and if players understand how to optimize rotations they can earn thousands of Gil each week.

Gatherers can also sell the treasure maps they find to other players on the Market Board, a cutthroat player-to-player marketplace that makes it crucial for them to undercut competitors in order to rank higher on the listings. However, each leve has a limited number of “Leve Allowances” that recharge at a rate of three every 12 real-world hours. The faster you use up your leve allowances, the lower your profits will be.

Retainer Ventures

Retainers can undertake Ventures, a type of mission that sends them out into the world to procure items. The type of items they retrieve depends on their assigned job, and the level of their gear. Ventures take a set amount of time to complete, which is measured in real-world hours. Players can assign their retainers to Quick Exploration ventures, which require no specific class and reward several items.

Each venture costs a special currency called Venture Tokens, which can be obtained through the Grand Company Seal vendor in Ul’dah, Gridania, or Limsa Lominsa, and also by completing the level 17 quest An Ill-conceived Venture. Venture Tokens are used for storing extra items and excess Gil, and also as a small source of experience. They can also be sold on the Market Board.

Treasure Hunts

In addition to gathering, crafting and trading Grand Company seals for items, there are several other ways to make gil. Treasure hunts and Leve quests often give a fair amount of gil, while the main scenario quests net the player a good amount as well.

Enemies drop gil on defeat, which varies depending on the type of monster.
