Every man can afford a cafe racer jacket and that is why there is something iconic and iconic about it. Originally developed in 1960s Britain as wear for motorcyclists, these jackets are as hard wearing as they are sleek looking. Cafe racer jackets do not resemble biker jackets in that they are sleek and lean, they have a short collar and proportionately, and they come with neat and mostly barely descriptive quilted shoulders. This makes them ideal for when used for riding but at the same time, they can also be used to give that extra flavor to your clothes.
Until the 1970s, cafe racer jackets were created from leather to allow riders to brave the road with comfort and durability; newer materials are from waxed cotton. Its structure is rather close to the body which also provides freedom of movement, and its practicality is also noteworthy: there is just enough space for the heaviest items, no more.
Today’s brands have given this shape a new spirit – at times they have added small variants of color or boasted features such as zippers or worn leather effects. But in essence, the cafe racer jacket is still a reminder of the classics: it is about austerity for the sake of utility and nothing else.
